For example, to remain hungry for days on end is a Sunnah, but not everybody has the capacity to perform this. However, despite not being able to observe such actions, a person should still have love and admiration for them.
Shaykh-al-Hadīth, Shaykh Mawlānā Muhammad Zakariyyā rahmatullahi alayh explains this with a beautiful example. He says, ‘The likeness of such people is like that of a diabetic. The diabetic will still have lots of love for sweet things, but because of his condition he will not be able to fulfil his desire.
Similarly, one should have love for every action of Sunnah even though his current capacity may not allow him to observe them.’”
