Expectation Only From Allāh Ta’ala

“Rasūlullāh sallalahu alayhi wasallam has stated in an al-hadīth-al-qudsīyy that Allāh ta’ala says, ‘I behave with my servant as he expects from me.’ (Bukhārī, Muslim)

This means that if an individual thinks that Allāh ta’ala will assist him and fulfil his need, then that is how he will be treated. However, if he thinks otherwise, then he will be dealt with accordingly.

The respected shaykh, Shaykh Mawlānā Yūsuf Ludhiyānwī rahmatullahi alayh said, ‘A person’s expectations from Allāh ta’ala will generally be according to the level of connection and relationship he has with Allāh ta’ala. It is like a person who has a good relationship with his doctor; he will always trust that his doctor will give effective advice.

Similarly, if a person’s connection with Allāh ta’ala is strong, he will always think positive. In return, Allāh ta’ala will deal with him according to his thoughts.’”
